CenterPoint grant gives big boost to little readers

 

Effort to fight hunger grows with new donation match

Tournament success!

The United Way of Huntington County hosted its 2nd Annual Disc Golf Tournament and 1st Annual Pickleball Tournament on June 21, 2025.

Forty participants took part in the "Discs for a Difference" Disc Golf Tournament. Trophies were awarded to the following champions: Matt Dombrosky in the MA1 division, Nicholas Childs in the MA2 division, Buffy Householder in the FA2 division, Jason Carter in the MA3 division, and Karson Resor in the junior’s MJ15 division. Prizes for Closest To Pin (CTP) were awarded, and Jacob Hall won the 50/50 Ace Pot.

In the Doubles Dink Pickleball Tournament, 14 players participated. Team "Doubles Trouble," consisting of Brian and Gina Fairchild, claimed first place. They were followed by Megan Thompson and Brady Herr in second place, and team “Jahame” consisting of Braxton Tharp and James Slawinkski in third.

Lunch was provided by the Watcha Havin’? Food Truck, and each player received a $5.00 coupon towards their meal.

The United Way of Huntington County extends special thanks to Buffy Householder for her generous donation of a loaded disc golf bag and to Big Z Disc Golf for the donation of 60 premium discs. Additional thanks go to Paddletek for donating a pickleball paddle, Town and Country Florist for a $75 gift card, The Purviance House for an overnight stay for two, and Ace Hardware for two Adirondack chairs for the raffle drawings.

Bippus State Bank was the GOLD MEDAL CHAMPION sponsor of the events.

Other financial sponsors included Huntington University, Parkview Hospital Huntington, College Park Church, Gerdau, Cardinal Family Medicine, Heartland REMC, First Federal Savings Bank, W.A. These events provided a full day of fun, friendly competition, and community spirit. The funds raised will support Dolly Parton's Imagination Library in Huntington County.
