The Prevent Child Abuse Council of Huntington County is one of fifty-six local child abuse prevention councils across Indiana partnering with Prevent Child Abuse Indiana (PCAIN). The local councils constitute the grass roots voice of child abuse prevention and help tailor prevention work around the unique needs of the counties and regions they service. The issues surrounding child maltreatment differ in each community and local councils exist to keep the message of primary prevention front and center. The Huntington County PCA meets the first Monday of each month at 1:00pm at the Youth Services Bureau. Huntington County’s Local Anti-Drug Coalition Efforts seek to create community conditions that empower youth and families to chose healthy behaviors and to live drug free lives. The Coalition collects data and assesses needs regarding alcohol and drug abuse and addiction in Huntington County, to help access current and prospective funding sources for opportunities and programs in the areas of prevention, treatment, and justice; to review grant proposals and give recommendations, and to pursue community involvement as needed. The Huntington County Health and Wellness Coalition is a group of organizations and individuals dedicated to identifying and removing barriers to increase access to health food, active living opportunities, and mental well-being. The Huntington County Domestic Violence Taskforce has a goal to promote awareness and spread information on domestic violence in Huntington County. This taskforce meets the second Tuesday of the month at 2:00pm at the Huntington County Department of Child Services. In 1996 Huntington County Community Schools purchased the property now known as the Huntington County Community Learning Center. When the expansion project started in 2016, the United Way of Huntington County was the grants and funds holder. In partnership with the local community, 1.45 million dollars was raised for this expansion. The United Way of Huntington County is part of the Learning Center Advisory Council, which meets monthly with other community stakeholders.
